Dos Pinos incorporates sustainable technology in its cold equipment
August.
As part of its actions in favor of sustainability, the Dos Pinos R.L Milk Producers Cooperative reduced energy consumption by up to 70%,
thanks to the conversion of 4,000 refrigeration units to alternative R-290 category systems.
The R-290 refrigerant gas (propane natural gas) has a greater refrigeration capacity, so smaller compressors are needed, hence the significant reduction in electrical energy. Furthermore, being a gas of natural origin, it does not affect the ozone layer and prevents global warming.
The cooperative has been working on this project with the objective of gradually replacing the commercial freezing and cooling equipment that is installed throughout the country. The goal is to ensure that, within 8 years, 100% of the refrigeration equipment placed on the market is renewed and uses this environmentally friendly technology.
Luis Mastroeni, director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Dos Pinos, said in this regard, “every day companies are more aware of the importance of safeguarding the environment, which is why we adopt tools and products that meet the objectives of our social responsibility programs.” . In our case we estimate that with the use of R-90 technology we can obtain a reduction of up to 70% of the usual electrical consumption” he concluded.
Another important aspect of this type of equipment is that the insulating foam it uses is cyclopentane, which avoids releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere; In addition, it does not use hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) like other technologies of the past.
The Milk Producers Cooperative seeks, through its sustainability strategy, to achieve the reduction of electricity consumption and reduce its environmental footprint, while supporting the country's regulatory compliance and the carbon neutrality goal.
Dos Pinos is also responsible for collecting and dismantling disused equipment to ensure proper environmental management of waste.
